This is Kevin Van Dyke, I'm crew chief for Gary Feldstein as he participates in 2013's Race Across the West. Simon Feldstein, Jason Liao and I will be providing support to Gary as he pedals from Oceanside, CA to Durango, CO. I will posting updates here as the race progresses with assistance from John Henry Maurice.
As crew chief it is my job to keep the train on the track. Gary's plan is to reach Durango, Colorado in 72 hours. He is confident that this is very doable, even allowing for ample sleep. I have my concerns, but those are secondary to doing everything possible to get him there by his goal. I've calculated a time station by time station arrival schedule based on the last 10 years of RAAM/RAW riders who've reached Durango by 72 hours +/- 2 hours and we will be monitoring Gary's progress against those numbers. Our "virtual racer" reaches Durango in 71 hrs and 50 minutes. I wish Gary the best in being there at that time also, and will do my best to make it happen.
